چکیده

A spectroscopic, photometric and evolutionary study is presented for HD 112989, an active peculiar giant star. The present spectroscopic observations show a significant CaII K&H emission core variability, whereas the UBV photometry shows that HD 112989 has a variable brightness. The rotational velocity for this star, 11.0 kms−1, is about five times larger than the mean rotational velocity for giants with the same spectral type. In addition, we have found no sign of binarity for this star.

Chromospheric Activity of Late - type Giants and Supergiants : Reappearance of Dynamo Activity in the Interior due to the Spin - up of the Core in Evolution Yutaka

The renewal of chrornospheric activity in red giants and supergiants is interpreted in terms of the reappearance of dynamo activity in the interior due to the spin-up of the core caused by its contraction in the course of evolution from the main sequence to the giant stage. A region of very high rotational shear (differential rotation) develops between the core, which spins up by a large factor...

Light element (Li, Li and Be) depletion isochrones for halo stars have been calculated with standard stellar evolution models. These models include the latest available opacities and are computed through the sub-giant branch. If Li is not produced in appreciable amounts by stellar flares, then the detection of Li in HD 84937 by Smith, Lambert & Nissen (1993) is compatible with standard stellar ...

Rotation of Horizontal Branch Stars in Globular Clusters

The rotation of horizontal branch stars places important constraints on angular momentum evolution in evolved stars and therefore rotational mixing on the giant branch. Prompted by new observations of rotation rates of horizontal branch stars, we calculate simple models for the angular momentum evolution of a globular cluster giant star from the base of the giant branch to the star’s appearance...

The Chemical Evolution of Globular Clusters - I. Reactive Elements and Non-Metals

We propose a new chemical evolution model aimed at explaining the chemical properties of globular clusters (GC) stars. Our model depends upon the existence of (i) a peculiar pre-enrichment phase in the GC’s parent galaxy associated with very lowmetallicity Type II supernovae (SNe II), and (ii) localized inhomogeneous enrichment from a single Type Ia supernova (SNe Ia) and intermediate-mass (4-7...

Formation of undermassive single white dwarfs and the influence of planets on late stellar evolution

We propose a scenario to form low-mass, single, slow rotating white dwarfs from a solar-like star accompanied by a massive planet, or a brown dwarf, in a relatively close orbit (e.g. HD 89707). Such white dwarfs were recently found by Maxted & Marsh (1998). When the solar-like star ascends the giant branch it captures the planet and the subsequent spiral-in phase expels the envelope of the gian...
